Move House

If you’ve spent time building a home somewhere, it can be difficult to consider moving to a bigger and better property. Moving house is not a decision that should be taken lightly, so you should make sure you’ve considered it from every angle before you put your home up for sale. If you think you want to move but aren’t 100% sure, here are some questions to ask yourself to decide if moving house might be the right choice.

Do I Have Enough Space?

One of the most obvious signs that you should move house is that you’re starting to feel a little… cramped. Sure, there are ways to make a home feel bigger, but sometimes you just need more actual space. If you’re feeling this way, you may need to upsize and move somewhere with a little more storage space or bigger rooms.

This is even more important if you’re thinking of expanding your family in some way – maybe by moving in with a partner, having kids, or getting a dog. More people (or animals!) in a home can make a small space feel even smaller, so think about your needs and consider moving to a bigger property.

Why Do I Want to Move House?

If you’re thinking about moving, consider why you’re having these thoughts. Do you want to move somewhere closer to your place of work or your family? Great! Moving might be a good idea.

However, if you’re considering moving because you don’t like your home, it might work out cheaper and more efficient to make some home improvements instead.

Making changes to a home—a fresh coat of paint, new kitchen cupboards, a revamped bathroom, or new furniture—can have a huge impact on your attitude. Think carefully about whether it’s the location or the property you don’t like, and consider whether it would be possible to make changes to the home instead of moving out.

If you’re sure you want to move, make sure you find the right estate agent for you. Roberto and Co are an estate agents Cheshunt that can help you with your property sale.

Can I Afford the Costs of Moving?

Moving house is expensive, even if you’re moving into a smaller or cheaper home. Research suggests that the average cost of moving (even just intrastate) is more than $2000. Before you put your house up for sale or consider ending your contract with your landlord or letting agent, think about the costs of moving.

You’ll want to factor in stamp duty and property taxes (where applicable), agency fees, deposits, solicitor costs, and the cost of hiring movers or a self-drive van. Remember that you may also need to take a few days off work to complete the move, which may cause a reduction in the month’s income.

Consider the costs from all angles to make sure you can afford it before you start the process of moving. Once you think you can afford it, talk to an estate agent to ask for a valuation of your property, and get the ball rolling.
